Yes, I miss it. Like you I did make contact with some friends but have lost touch and don't know how to contact them now - can't remember their married names.
I liked it because it gave you the opportunity to sort of watch from the sidelines without having to get involved - there were some discussions eg about old teachers that were interesting and you only had to put your head above the parapet if you wanted to. Not many I would want to be in contact with but the occasional old friend popped up. One thing I would absolutely hate is a school reunion though.
We had a school reunion in 2000 when we were all 60. Since then I've kept in touch with the ones who were in my group at school, and it's lovely. We're all 80 now!!
If I remember correctly there was a warning put out to people not to get to involved with old mates, as some were getting divorced to marry their old school boy/girl friend. They said , don't forget many people have changed to how you remember them.
Yes, I miss it. I put a few class photos on there and between 2 or 3 of us we managed to recall all the names. Interesting to see how far the class had spread around the world, find a couple of real successes and, sadly, learn that a few were dead.
Jackdaw, Forces reunited is still operative. I received an e mail from them a couple of days ago explaining that they were making changes over the next few weeks.
With the help of a 'lad' from my school, we organised 2 reunions. They were very good really, and it was great that 2 of our teachers were there. I've only kept in touch with 2 people from my school but you can start your own school page on Facebook. The 'lad who helped me set up the reunions has done this and lots of people from that school are putting on school photos and remembering teachers and former pupils .It's quite good really.
