On the South Bank, next to Borough Market, 5 minutes from London Bridge tube/mainline; another 5 minutes to cross the bridge (Southwark bridge even closer) into the City and another 5 to St Paul's. Handy for the Shard and Globe (Vinopolis used to be over the road but it's gone).
The reviews seem pretty good, maybe less so recently; I haven't stayed there though

Any Premier Inn. They are at St. Pancras, Kings Cross, Euston. I have stayed at all of these, never had a problem. The first 2 are a walk from Coram Fields, adults must be accompanied by a child to enter the park. Stratford is also good with good tube service and Westfield shopping but not really central London
