Why Would Tsh Level Double In 11 Months, Then Again In The Following Few Weeks ?
9 Answers
Been taking Thyroxine for 7 or 8 years & all fine. January 2021 TSH Level was 2, by December it was nearing 5. About 6 weeks later, beginning of February, it's up to nearly 9. Other than the thyroid working less & less, is there another reason it could be doubling so quickly ?
Docs said to take an extra 25mcg a week (yes, a week), review in 3 months. Can't think that's enough to even begin stopping the upward trend, let alone get it down (though I know it needs to be increased slowly). Going to be a long while before this is back to where it was by only increasing every 3 months.

I know that's not as long as you said, MrsCheese, but in reality I take it a few hours before, when I'm up for the loo early hours of the morning. Friend takes his *with* breakfast !
Only other "medication" is a vitamin D tablet, with breakfast.
I take on board "do as the GP says" but when it was tweaked before, it was increased 50mcgm a week, by a GP I know. I've never heard of this GP, she was looking it up on the Internet, so don't have much faith in her. As Sqad said originally, 25mcgm will do nothing.

Oh! I shouldn't say this, but if I were in your shoes, I would increase your daily Thyroxine level so that you are taking 125 mgms every day, as you do at weekends.
I would not tell the doctor until my 3 month blood tests.
That is my opinion....I know I have given the opposite advice.....I know that this is the Internet .........but that is what I would do.
