Estrangement From Adult Children

Good evening, I was wondering if any of you have found your adult children no longer wishing to have contact with you as a parent without any explanation or refusal to explain why they made this decision. How do you cope?

This must be very difficult for you. I don't have personal experience of this but have friends who do. Keeping the lines of communication open is important. It may be one way traffic to begin with but I would persevere. Good luck.

I'd probably start by changing my will ... otherwise, I don't know. Have there been quarrels? Is it all of your children?

It’s one of them the other goes through stages of wanting di sance then contact. The other has just cut me off no explanation.

there's nowt so queer as folk... and as they say ...you can choose your friends... I'd draw a line and move along although that sounds harsh and difficult.. when they need you they'll come running..and they will...don't be manipulated by children !

I would try and contact them for an explantion, over and over if necessary. They could have been listening to gossip regarding what you have said or done which is totally untrue. I know its up to them to believe or not believe rumours, but sometimes things are taken at face value and cause rifts.

If it had not been for my sister who rightly confronted me me about what my mother was saying I had said about her and my brother-totally untrue and we now know the reasons behind it- I would have been estranged from them for years.
