it's built on Thorney Island ("ey" just meant "island", as in Batter's ey and Chel's ey, so it was Thorn's island island), so it was on slightly higher ground. But yes, the Great Flodd of 1928 got in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1928_Thames_flood
