I found a sum of money in the city centre this morning.  It wasn't a fortune but it might mean a lot to whoever lost it.

I'll hand it into the police station if they'll accept it.

Sandy I don't know about where you are but I do know that when I found a beautiful watch in a hedgerow in a local park in England I rang police and reported it.  They told me to keep it for I think it was 6 weeks and if anyone phoned them about it they would give them my number.  If nobody phoned within 6 weeks then it was mine.  Nobody phoned.

My local police only accept dangerous items like weapons and drugs, items that identify the owner such as bank cards in wallets, and cash of any quantity.

Your police force might be different, check out their website, the info should be there

You'll be lucky to find a call in police station these days. Most are not  open to public and just seem to be for staff and car parks for police vehcles in Norfolk.  All enquiries are handled by a central police ststion call centre.  You can't hand in lost property you just have to phone, just as ladynirder says, they tell you to hang on to it for 6 weeks and it's yours if not claimed.

Our local community facebook site is used a lot when you find something!

With apologies to Ladybirder for her new title!

Sandy - do you want me to come round and take it to the station for you? lol

Don't trust her Sandy!

I was going to say the same as Lottie. In my village, found property is handed into the local Spar shop, and it's mentioned on the local facebook page.

This may not apply where you are Sandy, so may not be relevant.

From the PSNI website:
"If you find cash, please hand this into your nearest police station. Cash that is not reunited with the owner is donated to charity."

PS No Robin seen since I last mentioned it. Must be 1.0 to the cat.

It was only a £20 note.  I'll give it to Oxfam.
