The only joke is the criticism from those with no better solution to offer, and apparently unable to see the value of deterrence.

Obviously it would be useful to go further and extract ourselves from agreements that are used to thwart perfectly the reasonable actions we decide on, but we don't have sufficient MPs with the courage to do that. We mainly have career politicians who faf around trying to seem busy but who make things worse as often as not.

Gawd elp us. There's no good outcome for this. Even if they manage to get about 20 people on a plane at some point it will just highlight how ridiculous, ineffective and costly it all is.
