hard drive problem

my pc will not recognise any of my hard drives i have 4 hard drives 2 are connected at any one time .i can only get into the bios screen. running xp pro.

is the power lead plugged into each drive?
could be a psu problem?(if they are) can you feel them spinning? when pc switched on?
are any of the disks pins broken?
or on motherboard?
if none of these then either disks are ******** or ide controller on motherboard maulfunctioning?
ide cable problem?
try another cable?
