I knew there was a weakness with them and that when it fails it knackers the valves in the engine. So when the engine died I knew what it was. Luckily the previous owner had extended the warrenty on the car I didn't have to pay. In March I got the cam belt replaced on my car - the belt cost £71.49, water pump £58.83, alt belt £20.45. I had a couple of other parts replaced. Labour was £264 plus and MOT (vat exempt) Total bill was £577.39
Given the value of a 2010 Focus, you have to weigh the cost of replacing the belt versus the value of the car.
I would definitely say that it is not worth spending £500 on such a job for the car.
If you have owned the car for many years and have not thrashed it, there is every chance that the belt will last a lot longer than the recommended change interval.
