Week 39? That's three quarters of the way through the year!

How did that happen then?  It seems like we've only just put the Christmas decorations away from last year!

THREE out of seven for me in the main quiz this week
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-69373629

. . . and another THREE, but out of five of course, in the junior one

4/7 and 4/5.

A good score for me.

The elder of my cats, DJ,  has ended her hostility towards Cookie the kitten.

She was grooming him this afternoon.

Impressive scores, Sandy!

Well done!

It's lovely to know that DJ and Cookie are getting along so well now,  As the weather turns colder, you'll probably find them curled up together soon! 😺

Evening, Buenchico.
A very terrible 2 and 1 for me.

3 and 4 for me this week

Think positive, Clover!

At least you managed to avoid any zero scores 😉

Well done on just sneaking ahead of me this week, Toorak!

What Christmas decorations ?

:(    I know we've been on holiday in Scotland last week, but oh dear!

1/7 and a partial redemption of 3/5.

I have, however, visited the first public library in the UK! Westerhaven Library at Bentpath, D&G,  and just up the road from the cottage we hired.

Miners in the Meggit valley were mining for lead and antimony in the early 1800s. Antimony is so dangerous that the miners were only allowed to work for 6 hrs per day. The mine owner(s) didn't want their workforce getting into bad habits, so bought some books and placed them in a cottage. The miners were so keen on this that they each gave 5/- (when a week's wage was 10/-) to buy more books. It went from there and Telford left £1K to be held in perpetuity and the interest used  to buy more books.

It's still operating as the village library every Wednesday and has some truly amazing books, including a folio (1of 6)of Telford's designs.  Did you knowthat hewasinvolvedin the Gotha canal, Sweden?  I didn't either.

I was born and raised the other side of the River Aire to Saltaire andused the Library there.  Sir Titus must haveknown of this initiative.

Evening Chris.

Started reasonably well, then it all fell apart.

Well done on beating me with your 'double middling' scores this week, Canary42!

(Yes, I don't really bother with Xmas decs either.  Hanging a few cards up over my desk is about as close as I get to 'trimming up' these days!).

1/7 obviously isn't great, Jourdain2, but it could have been worse, I suppose 😉

"Westerhaven"?  Methinks you mean 'Westerkirk'!
http://www.westerkirkparishlibrary.org/

I'd love to visit it, anyway.  (I love old libraries.  This is my favourite: https://www.thomasplumeslibrary.co.uk/ ).

However I think that might upset certain people in Manchester if you try to tell them that Westerkirk has the oldest public library in the UK, as they'll definitely say otherwise!

Hiya, Sam!

I hope that you're well.  (I'm surprisingly fit for an old'un, thank you!).

You're obviously not very childlike this week.  I suggest spending more time on your roller skates! 😊

Hi, Patsy!

Well done with that impressive 5/7!

Well done on keeping Sandy company with those impressive scores, SJ!

Good evening, Arky!

Congratulations on being a bit more childlike than me this week!

Good evening, Haras2!

I'm amazed that you didn't know the kitten's name!  I thought that was the type of news that you wouldn't possibly miss out on!

My bunch, and I, are all well and enjoying life.  I hope that things are going swimmingly for you too!

2/7

Zero it's been a while /5

Question Author

Oops, Kwillmott!

Scoring zero in a quiz is surely embarrassing enough but when it's a quiz designed for kids . . . ! 😊

Better luck next week!

Good Evening, Chris!

I must have been paying more attention this week as I am very pleased with my scores tonight

5/7, 5/5

Thank you again for your info and links for my previous mini break as we enjoyed many steam train rides and trips around local areas thanks to you. We are off on another holiday break in a couple of weeks time to Richmond in Yorkshire Dales area, so if you have any great links for steam train rides or areas of interest and you can spare the time that would be much appreciated.

Popping round to see my new Granddaughter and grandpup for more snuggles tomorrow, so excited and looking forward to that. How are your fabulous trio doing? What have they all been up to now that weather is changing and nights getting darker?

Wishing you, Chequers, Moonbeam and Tablo a wonderful week ahead :-)

5/7 & 5/5 - I'm getting good at the junior quiz, no guesses this week.

Ooops, yes, Westerkirk at Bentpath.  A Robert Adam edifice in the old churchyard, where Telford's dad is buried and he paid for it to be kept and cleaned.
