For heaven's sake! Diddling!

How you doing?

I too have been thinking of you nailedit...hope you are well.

As do we all.

Thank you for asking, appriciate it.

Came home Thursday, been sleeping a lot since coming home.

Dont know why, probably just catching up on some proper sleep or a weeks worth of sedatives working its way out lol.

I'd be a liar if I said that I dont want a drink anymore because I could murder a bottle of vodka right now but thats addiction and ive got to work on that.

Spent a day at Blackpool illuminations yesterday with my grandaughter. Much better than getting plastered 😁😁

Good to hear you had a good day with your grand daughter. Do you have someone you can call if the Vodka becomes too much of a temptation

How long does it take to be physically no longer addicted to alcohol? I thought it would take weeks not days but happy to be corrected, and what do they give you instead? Is it like putting you onto methadone instead of heroine? Do they just discharge you after a week and let you get on with it?

I'm not sure but think they just give you coping strategies, rather than replace one addiction with something else.

Glad to hear you have had a good day with your family, Nailedit.

Sleep is restorative, get all the sleep you can

Is there any reason you can't have the anti-alcohol implant?

No smow when you are PHYSICALLY addicted it means your body is dependant on alchohol and you could die if you stopped all of a sudden. I genuinely thought people went into rehab for weeks, maybe the NHS don't fund the aftercare?

Question Author

The NHS does fund rehab but there is a long waiting list.

Some might find this interesting

That link also refers to the type of detox Nailedit has just been through

Oh right AP, not sure then. I know that Nailedit was in rehab earlier in the year for much longer, maybe this is different because of that.

calmck, yes, Ive got numbers to ring if needs be,,,

//How long does it take to be physically no longer addicted to alcohol?//

Between 3 to 7 days. Addictions are more mental than physical.

//what do they give you instead?//

A sliding scale of diazipam over the week.

Do they just discharge you after a week and let you get on with it?

No, there are further support services in place..

//I genuinely thought people went into rehab for weeks,//

rehab is an option (after detox) for some people. For me it issnt an option for a number of pesonal reasons.

//Is there any reason you can't have the anti-alcohol implant?//

The NHS are not that keen on it. Its actually been banned in some American states have some people have died from it. even coming into contact with glue, paint thinners, aftershave and vinigar can make you violently ill.

Nailit, you said previously you were physically addicted to alcohol and although I'm no expert I think most long term alchoholics are physically addicted, like smokers are addicted to nicotine, not to smoking. I can't understand why you would not accept rehab if it's offered but that's your choice I suppose but you have said in the past you have not had sufficient support for your addiction. I know it's hard for anyone not in your position to understand, but if the help,is offered you should man up and take it. X

//if the help,is offered you should man up and take it//

Its not a question of "manning up".

Ive already stated that for me it is not an option for a number of personal reasons (and also impractical ones). I have further support in place instead.

Not every addict goes into rehab after detox.
