I  think for NANS to be the answer the word accepted becomes superfluous and it would have to be either relationS or be OF older relations, thereby allowing NAN'S

I thought that the bread had been accepted for an older relative so the bread was nan's.

I'll accept it as it's nan's.

Doesn't matter to me really, as I never submit the crossword.

You might be right- the spelling of the bread is Naan so the accepted may be a sounds like indicator to make it NAN, and therefore NAN'S would work
