nma // but there's a clear difference between a 50p biro and a phone worth maybe £400.//

What is that difference ? She's under attack that she lied.

I hold no brief for her or her party, but as I thought the brouhaha over Boris and a piece of birthday cake (about the value of a biro) was absurd, so I think this is  similarly a witch hunt & I don't think the value of the article has any relevance.

//Sir Keir will also signal that Government departments could face cuts in a tough spending review next spring that will include a “line by line” review of every item of spending.//

Cutting MPs expenses claims would be a popular move.

KHANDRO, unless a biro, previously reported as stolen, were identifiably different, how would its re-appearance be detected?

How would the police be made aware of the false claim?

Even if the police were made aware the biro had not been stolen, would they be interested in spending time and money investigating the allegation?

If the police investigated the matter and then referred it to the CPS, would the CPS take it any further?

Regardless of value, that's a really wonky analogy, khandro.

how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?🤣
