Mr.Sam has just been diagnosed as having a torn retina. He didn't seem to have had any symptoms and it was just a general eye exam that showed it up. On Tuesday he has an appointment with a specialist to see what to do. We are a bit anxious. Has anyone had such a thing before ?

If it's like a detatched retina the my wife has had one.

It was easily fixed by the folk at Edinburgh Eye Pavilion on a day patient basis, eyedrops issued and she was warned of the cataract treatment that would result sooner rather than later.

It all went smoothly and she's back to what she likes to call normal.

yeah google detached retina and you will get millions of hits

The eye doctor will discuss treatment options for you - and this condition is quite common

Had a tear. Laser sealed it. Been ok since.

Thanks for your answers. It's always good to hear from people who experienced it. Let's see what they do. I'll keep you updated.

Hi Sam. OH had a detached and slightly torn retina a couple of years ago, it was treated as an emergency and he was seen very quickly.

He was told to go to a&e and as fate would have it, the eye doctor happened to be there. He lasered it there and then, told to return if it didn't settle. It did settle but then two weeks later he started to have same symptoms again (bright splashes of light in his vision). Off to a&e again, taken through to the eye department and laser re done but twice as many zaps as the first time.

No problems since, he says the laser didnt  hurt at all, and he was told his retina was partly detached in a corner and had a slight tear in it.
