Virus Safety Etc - Why Not Mouthwash/Spray?

NB: I'm honestly just curious about this, I'm not worrying etc.
This is about ANY virus or bacteria, not just covid or flu.

Precautions like handwashing, distancing, etc make sense but why is there no advice on mouthwash/nasal sprays?
Since thats the main way viruses/bacteria enter the body it seems like a good idea to me?

It occurred to me because i have a few bad teeth & spray my mouth with diluted TCP daily, & I have a sore in my nose so use Naseptin, which often ends up down in my mouth too.
Both bacterial, obvs, but surely TCP, salt water, & many OTC mouthwashes would kill many viruses too?

Or is there some other more suitable substance?
Even if these common substances arent the best thing, surely a spray or 2 of any of them after being exposed is better than nothing so worth it, especially for vulnerable people?

If its not a good idea, why not?
This is a genuine question i'm not being provocative.

(not interested in discussing vaccines, hoaxes, etc)
(( NB: I rarely go out or see people as im not well, so I cant say its prevented me catching anything))

Thanks :)

I think if we tried to kill every invader of the body we'd never get any kind of resistance building up so have to take the rough with the smooth.

I frequently use Naseptin (heavy nosebleeds) and so far haven't swallowed it.

There are mouth washes, gargles and nasal sprays you can that claim to help fight infection but I don't know how effective they are.

It's a good idea and worth trying if it doesn't dry out your mouth and nose.

A know nasal rinsing is common but I can't bring myself to try it (snort it up one nostril, blow it out the other. Repeat the other way).

TCP is almost forgotten, ideal to gargle with, not very nice if you swollow a little, but an infection of anykind is not very nice. Its not the pennies it use to be though, expect to pay around £4/£5 a bottle.

Mouthwash is not good for you.
Nasal rinsing is horrible and feels like being waterboarded (or something close to how I imagine that to be.)

I've had cold symptoms for months now. I've tried everything else I could think of. Sprays, antihistamines, anti-allergy pills, gargling with salt water. I haven't tried TCP yet. I might have to give that a go.

Thanks all -
Oh TCP is amazing - first sign of a sore throat etc i spray a dilute solution & it goes away.
I also noticed after i use it that i get no plaque on my teeth either.

Nasal rinses are great - but if theyre hurting or feel horrible i think you must be using the wrong stuff - you cant use just water - it has to be a salt solution - doesnt hurt at all, doesnt feel weird, feels 'normal'.
The salt seems to make the water 'softer' & non irritating.

I was given a special bottle & sachets by the doc years ago & i was amazed.
You can get the same ones in any chemist -
This is starter kit - https://www.expresschemist.co.uk/neilmed_sinurinse_starterkit_15-sachets.html?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqp7zxqSbigMV4ZZQBh304S9qEAQYCCABEgLEpPD_BwE

But you can get boxes of just the sachets too.
This is easier to use than a netipot i think.

Get your teeth fixed ( chronic infection) annd you will feel MUCH BETTER

because the viruses are carried on the breath, not mouth clag or saliva

Try anything -  people love shoving things up their schnozz

I don't think theres enough evidence for prevention with nasal spray/mouth washes to justify doing this and killing good bacteria too.

Link doesn't work, joko

take out the bit from % onwards

Thats not evidence its the results of one study in a lab but still interesting

Since Covid, I have been sniffing iodine in a salt pot if I have been in close contact with somebody, or a room full of people. It seemed to work pretty well, harmless to the body, and kills any germs in the nose/throat.
