My Poor Jay, Again.

He was anaesthetised to have two teeth plus a root remnant extracted at the vets yesterday.  He was there all day (11 hours) and they also removed any remaining tartar with an ultrasonic scaler.  I'm following all the care instructions given to me but oh my poor boy is in such pain even though I meticulously give him his pain and other medication. He keeps letting out little howls.  He's breaking my heart.

No question really, just loads of sympathy for both of us.  Please. xxx

I'm sorry for both of you. What a shame.

Would a warm hot water bottle help if he could lie his face on it?

Maybe check on his medication dosage with the vet/receptionist. It might be able to be increased slightly.

Can you speak to your vet again urgently, LB, to ask if he can prescribe stronger painkillers?   That Jay is in such discomfort doesn't sound right.

I am sorry to hear this.

Have you got an electric blanket that you can place on low so he can lie on it.

Some of it will be discomfort some of it will be pain and it will also be down to being 'knocked out'.

Keep him warm and try and give him some finger warm chicken broth or beef broth.

Heart breaking knowing your beloved pet is in pain. Maybe ring Vet surgery to see if you can increase dose, like others have suggested. Lots of tlc and warmth can only help. He'll probably be more comfortable in a couple of days time. x

Sorry for the wait, my food delivery just turned up.

Jay is wrapped up in his little coat which he's had on all night plus now a warm HWB wrapped in a small towel.  Since I asked my question he has this minute gone into the garden for a pee. Had a drink of water and come over to me to see what I am eating from my Waitrose order.  He's now enjoying a couple of little pieces of ROKA Gouda cheese sticks!

So, what a change. Vet did say give it 24 hours before you contact them again unless of course you are really worried. I'm not anymore.  Thank you all.

They are sent to worry us.

Glad he appears to be picking up.

Ahhh.  That's good news.

☺️

Thank you both.  He certainly worries me. I hope he doesn't now decide that pretending to be ill will get him treats. He's not daft!

Yes it is N, hope it stays that way. We are off for a lie down now for a while.

Such a relief! πŸ₯°

ah Ladybirder - sorry to hear of your beloved's pain and now getting a little better.

we all hate to hear of a wee dumb animal being in pain and they can't tell you .

Yes, he's got you sussed.  Just give a little howl of pain and out will come the treats.😁

Seriously tho', it's good to hear he's well on the mend.

Good news, LB. x

Thank you again for all your lovely messages.  We've been for a lie down but he didn't stop moaning so had to get up again.  I rang the vets but his vet is not in until tomorrow. They said I could take him down there now and see another vet BUT we should really give J 24 hours since his meds started and that isn't until 9pm this evening.  We've agreed the vet who has been treating him will ring me in the morning and decide what needs to happen.  J's BFF is due to pop in soon which will hopefully cheer him up.
