My old boy lived to 34 and he was fed (during the winter) on a diet of soaked sugar beet pulp, bran, flaked maize, a scoop of 16+ and a few 'steady neddy' cubes. As for oats - no way - would have had a rodeo horse if he'd had them! He was a heavyweight cob and the only other thing I added occasionally in very cold weather was some barley to keep him warm from the inside (had a habit of shredding rugs, usually getting hooked to a fence by them!).
Also did add a tablesponful of cod liver oil in the latter years
and he never had any mobility problems, but I always used Super Solvitax. I found the agricultural merchants were cheaper than the horse feed specialists.
