getting it all down on paper
12 Answers
I have lots of records here now, hundreds of names all backed by verifiication in primary sources, what i am struggling with is finding a site that i can get around easily for uploading the information and then maybe printing out the stuff. I have tried genes reunited but i don't find the input very flexible as if i make a mistake it is not easily undoable, any ideas on anywhere else?

You can easily add and delete people, put in any number of dates, images, notes, facts about anything you want.
You can also print many different types, views or branches of your tree
It comes with a free 90 day subscription to Ancestry.com, 3 Parish Records CDs, Scottish Parish Records CD and the 1851 census sample (10% of UK population shown)
I would highly recommend it - well worth the small price. Shop around on the net to get a good price too.

oh hi shaney, my brother-in-law has just told me he has this Family tree maker and he is letting me have it, i really am struggling to pass on the info to him over the net, so i drove over to his place near Burscough today and gave him his direct line back to 1790 in certificates and census entries and a couple of parish register entries. he says he won't need to bother with the Hawkes line now lol
I am missing a few pages of hard copy from the IGI too and so i will have to find them online, I havn't used it for ages and certainly not online and so it will be interesting.

I'd agree with shineybomb. I use Family tree maker. As well being able to include just about anything you want to about your family you can also add your own fields and store scanned images of bmd certs, census, photos etc. I've even knocked out a couple of 100 page books on it. I was not desperately impressed with the tree print outs to start with but given a bit of experience I find it quite flexible. Lots of sites support FTM files so it is really easy to upload stuff (and download stuff for that matter). My favourite site is ancestry.com, but there are some good personal pages on rootsweb.
just finished inputting the basics of my tree into family tree Maker 2006, how easy is this, i printed it out and it took up 6 pages but i have 98 ancestors from my Grandson, it will take some careful sutting out around the edges but it will give me an idea of where i am missing some ancestors, I like that I will be able to add coloured boxes and lines to it too, i will be able to colour code the surnames to a certain extent to make it reader friendly for my grandson.
Before lashing out on a commercial program, have a look at the excellent Personal Ancestry File, available free from The Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), see this site:http://genealogy.about.com/library/blpaf.htm
