MP3 / IPOD - advice needed
5 Answers
I have never owned either of these, but I would like a VERY simple device which I can download some of my favourite songs (Max of 100). I dont need any fancy gadgets, just something nice and simple and fairly cheap. What would be the best for me to buy, and how many gigs does it need to be ???
As you can tell, I am a technophobic !!!!
Thankyou

The Argos catalogue is a reference work that I frequently call upon when answering questions on AB. It's got loads of useful stuff in it. For example, the table on page 392 quotes the approximate number of 4 minute tracks, converted at 128Kbps, for different memory capacities. These are as follows:
128Mb > 32 tracks
256Mb > 64 tracks
512Mb > 128 tracks
1Gb > 250 tracks
2Gb > 500 tracks
4Gb > 1000 tracks
30Gb > 7500 tracks
60Gb > 15000 tracks.
Looking at the prices in the main catalogue (together with the current price update brochure), the Idisgo Lite 512Mb MP3 player might meet your needs. It's priced at 12.49:

I would recommend you get an iPod nano. Does everything you want, very simply and easily.

I got a cheep mp3 player off www.play.com about a year and a half ago and its still going strong, its their own make and doesnt have a screen or anything, just a stop, play, pause, next and previous track button. Not sure if they still do them but for simpleness its worth checking out.
However if your thinking about quality over price i would recomend a ipod (i dont have one, but i think the next on i buy will be a i pod).
