My vet has recommended Royal Canin for our lab. My local pet shop has quoted me 40 for a 15kg bag. As she was looking it up in her suppliers catalogue I noticed that the price to her is only 26 so i thought I might be able to get it cheaper elsewhere. I've done a google search and even checked ebay and everyone is charging 40.

Does anyone know of any cheaper suppliers or is there some sort of restrictive trade practice going on here!

I think thats the price across the board. We stock burns at work, we get it at trade price, then sell at the retail price, about 9 more.

My lab came to me from the breeder on Royal canin, i found it made her very loose and smelly! It was also expensive and only 1 pet shop in my area stocked it! She gets a natural/homecooked diet now and i would never change back!

Our Vet recommended Hill's Science Plan, which is costly (and makes them money!), and which I hve heard bad reports about.
There are a lot of good quality complete foods out there, often at a far more reasonable price. Jack, our Collie, is gluten intolerant, so he is fed Burgess Supa Sensitive gluten-free dry complete food. I think it's about 18/bag, available at smaller pet shops, and at Pets at Home. THey do little bags too, as other foods might, so you can test your dog on it before you commit to 15 flippin' kilos of the stuff!

Is there a specific reason why your lab needs something that Royal Canin provides? Even if that's the case, I am sure there are other foods that are made up of similar ingredients.

Good luck :) Lisa x
