The �dark side� actually receives as much sunlight throughout the course of the month as the side facing us. When we see the Moon half lit, the �dark side� opposite the Earth is also half lit. When the Moon is not lit on the side we observe from Earth this is called a �New Moon� and the other side is completely illuminated by the Sun.
Only when the Moon is �Full� is �the dark side of the Moon� actually dark. Wish You Were Here!
