has anyone else had this problem?
every year in maidstone kent at around august time an official envelope arrives referring to your obligation to fill in a form stating the occupants of the property on 15th october next
in september you get an 'urgent reminder'
about the first week in october if you still havent returned the information some jobs worth knocks on your door!
every year, its a ritual to tell this idiot that i dont have a crystal ball and if they want the correct information as requested they can have the form any time after midnight on the 15th october
they get very officious!
oh dear they might have to work a bit if all the forms arrived on the 17th october!

Most people know very well whether they are going to be in a property in three month's time, so there's no problem in giving this information. However, if it does change... ta dah - you can tell them and they will amend it!

Register on-line. It takes 4 clicks and there is no need to walk to the postbox. The form is enquiring about occupants living at your address, not visitors on that day. If you do need to make changes, you can do so on-line anytime.

I still can't understand why you have a problem or think this is about the Electoral Office being lazy.
The Electoral Commission demands a national annual survey to be carried out in the autumn. There is a national cut-off date of 15th Oct, with the result to be published by 1st December. In order to process the huge amount of data, councils issue the registration form in August on the basis that most people know who will be living in their property in three months time because for the vast majority of properties this will not change, and this gives them plenty of time to process the information.
For the very few people who are unable to determine much in advance those living in their property on 15th October, the system also provides plenty of time to capture these details and ensure they are processed within the timescale.
Evidentally there are a few people who go out of their way to be deliberately unreasonable too, and the system allows time to ensure that even stoppy gits get the right to vote.
