We had a smeg for about a year. Durability wise, there was absolutely no problem with it. Size-wise, however, it was a real challenge. But as I say, durability wise, it's great.
We now have a rangemaster side-by-side. Having lived in so many different parts of the world, the children and I have become rather hooked on having ice in our drinks and it seems to flow on to guests as well. So the rangemaster made more sense for us as I was constantly buying bags of ice every week.

Both the Smeg and the Rangemaster are A-rated energy wise... but if you like the smeg design, I'm sure you'll have no problem with it.
Best of luck

The Rangemaster is plumbed in. They actually installed a small filter with it as well, which is supposed to last for up to two years. I had originally asked about buying an ice maker, but we didn't have the space. So this worked out perfectly. What we like most about it is that the finish is matt and therefore leaves no finger marks at all.
Thanks for asking about OldGrape. I was going to post something on her thread later. Everything is moving along right now. I'm working on a local group to assist all of us to help her.
Be well

I presume you have a Rangemaster / smeg because you could not run to a Maytag or GE or Sub Zero or Amana.
The 2 products mentioned are American "Style" while the above are actually manufactured in US>
There is definately a build quality difference..but i'm sure we all wish you well with your Smeg.
Wait a minute....is your appliance a SMEG fridge freezer FAB type?
If so, i'm afraid its a case of style over substance.
Wish you well

I'm not quite sure of what you're trying to say. My final choice in the Rangemaster was specifically because of the energy rating. I did consider the Maytag, but one had a B rating and the other a C. I did not consider a GE at all. And according to WHICH, the US originating fridges had a history of challenges with the adapted compressors they used to work with the UK current.
Again, I'm not certain if you were alluding to something else. But we're quite pleased with the Rangemaster.
