what is a fmau referral?

hi, i went to the hospital the other day and the babys growth is decreasing the doctor didnt explain what he was going on about just said that i was to go back to the hospital every tuesday and thursday to the fmau, but i dont have a clue what this is and what they do, i am really upset that no-one explained this to me as i am only 18 and when i asked the midwife at the hospital she said she would explain it to me when she had made my appointments but jst rushed off after she had finised! can anyone help please just to stop me worrying lol, thanks amy xx

call your usual midwife and ask for an appointment to talk this through. Your age should bear no relation to how you are treated at the hospital at all.

I dont know exactly what FMAU is but presumably it will be feotal monitoring of some sort.

You dont say how many weeks pregnant you are so itll be hard for anyone to say what the hospital may be doing.

Im sure that you will get a scan first to see if baby seems small because of its position in womb or if there is a reason that baby's growth has stopped or slowed down.

36 weeks is almost full term (37 weeks) so even if you need to be induced now because of placental problems baby is near enough fully grown and should suffer any effects.

I think it was the 'not rocket science, stop stressing' part, dolly.

It is obvious that amylnb will be stressing ~ bloody hell, I would too and especially if I were 18 and the type of person who is unable to be strong enough to ask questions. I have been there. I was 21 when I had my first baby...allowing everyone to take cahrge and not tell me anything because ''they knew best''.

Luckily that changed, and during subsequent pregnancies I learned that 'forearmed is forewarned', making sure I knew everything that was happening to me.

Hope all is well with you amylnb. As redcrx says you are almost full term. I had my last baby at 34 weeks so understand the stress xx

this woman (regardless of age) is worried for her baby, she wants advice and answers, not to be told not to stress unless you have a reason why she shouldnt stress.

I agree, its too early in the morning and i wont get into an argument, it may well be that you didnt mean it to come across the way it seemed to. I know that happens so I hope we can brush it under carpet :)

Yes, it is nice to have a thanks when you have been helpful but it sounds to me she is rather worried at the moment and has other things on her mind so maybe cut her some slack?

hi everyone, jst like to say thanks for the answers, and i do have manners its just i dont spend alot of time on the internet...sorry.
everything went fine at the refferal had to have a few more tests done yesterday but the doctors are sayin everything is looking ok but the growth is still decreasing so they are booking me in for a c-secion for sometime after christmas.
