ive an irish passport and i got it in 2000, its still valid for another 2 years. but can i use it for travel to USA? they say you need a machine readble one? does this mean i need a new one or can i just still use my old one?

hiya, I have just had the same conversation with the passport office and a machine readable passport means that on the page with your picture at the very bottom there should be 2 rows of numbers with these little signs < < > >
if so then you are fine.
I am going to USA with only one year left on passport.
