I am working full time, paying a morgage, bills, etc, and most of my income goes on expenses such as running my home, i currently live with my girlfriend, who doesnt work, is she entitled to claim job seekers allowance?
because we do not have enough liquid cash to support her job search
In short, no. Because you're working full time and your girlfriend lives with you, then you're seen to be supporting her. If you only worked 24 hours a week, then I believe your gf could claim JSA, or you both could if you were both unemployed.
It may be best for your gf to search for jobs online. http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/HomePage.aspx? SessionID=ce3e44fc-9889-47ee-9418-8b446f6fa4a3
That may be of help.
Is that definitely correct Icemaiden? I only ask because when I finished uni I claimed job seekers allowance until I found myself a job (only a couple of months) and I still lived with my parents who were supporting me and the dole office knew about this.
Going by what a lady told me recently, this seems to be true. I think it's different for people still living at home, but not for married couples, or those just living together, if one's in full-time employment.
The above link should help a bit.
