We actually signed up for the Common Market, can anyone tell me why we need anything more than mutal cooperation and trading agreements? Is there any advantage to being federalised as we are now?

The US why? Because they're big
Shortly followed by the Chinese why? because they're big
Spotting a pattern yet?
Why did we get dragged into the Iraq war? because we needed to stay in with the US
The EU has a GDP in excess of the US and has the clout to resist being pushed about.
It's a case of get big or get lost.
The EU has also resisted large companies like Microsoft imposing record fines for anti-competive behaviour on them
Can you ever see any UK government ever doing this?
Of course this sort of behaviour is not popular with US media and other organisations and they'll attempt to undermine the EU at any chance.
Like when the EU tried to cut the cost of fuel in the UK in 2002

Sounds like you are stuck in the early 70s R1Geezer.
Mrs Thatcher and Mr Major signed us up for a lot more than a common market. They even took us into the ERM with disastrous results.
Mr Brown has been resolute in his resistance to adopt the Euro, so I am assuming you will vote for him at the next election, and not the tories who are happy to sign away everything to Brussels

We're not federalised, we aren't even truly confederalised. Subsidiarity is the key to the EU and if in practice efficiently I believe it would benefit every member country.
I'm with Jake here, do we really want to be stuck here on our own! It's like people want the benefits but don't want
to do any giving.
