messenger how to update

Hiya, I've recently had to take my pc back to the day I bought it, so far so good, apart from messenger which I have the old talking box for now, but I don't no how to update it! please can someone help

untick all the options first (they are all junk!), download and install

when i get there theres 3 choices but when i download the Windows Installer 3.1, it just installs a folder filled with writing on my desktop

look in the folder for a setup file, double click if there.

or select windows update on the start menu and download all the latest updates would probably sort it too (and should be done anyhow if you've just reinstalled, though it will take ages!)
