Off the top of my head it feels like 3/4 time.

Agreed, but every so often it slips in a bar in 4/4 which is why it sounds a bit odd...

I've just had a look at the sheet music and it's 6/8 time.  I remember trying to play it but with 5 flats it was a bit difficult.

The first 8 bars alternate between 6/8 and 7/8 then it goes into 6/8 when the vocal line starts

Ah so it alternates. I've been trying to work out a possible time sig that could incorporate both the 3 beat bit and the 4 beat bit. Cheers!
