New place ...

I'm transferring from where I work to a different building in about a weeks time. I love local history & I've discovered that the building I am moving in to was an old cinema!!! Just found a pic of it online with some details. I'd love to have seen the original interior!

most old cinemas were converted from old music halls and so they had a similar layout with the stalls on the lower level with the curved balcony above. The seating would be deep red mohair and very itchy, even itchier if it was an older cinema, they didnlt get called the flea pit for nothing lol

Your local library will have info on it I expect, what's the betting The Beatles played there too? they performed all over in the early 60s

It was the Music department for Manchester university til 2003 apparently

Yes dot, found that out too! Apparently the building carried sound well when used as the music dept.

It's really art deco isn't it? Bet they have a cellar where the boiler is and that would be interesting

dot!!!! It is very much that style. A cellar! Hadn't even thought of that! I've already been over there a few times as cover for someone, they're quite a friendly bunch, I'm sure someone will show me! Trouble is, they're all men over there!
