a neighbour recently said she was told that she would have to pay 150 for a smear test becouse she is over 65, i think she got this wrong, can anyone tell me if she has or not.
If she has had regular smear tests with no abnormalities she is no longer entitled to a smear test on the NHS unless there are other indications that she needs one.
Regular smear tests are for those aged under 65. She has been quoted a private fee. Probably cheaper elsewhere.
Well that is the price you would pay if you were going private. (I work in a private hospital)
Women aged 65 and over who have had three consecutive negative results are taken out of the call recall system. The natural history and progression of cervical cancer means it is highly unlikely that such women will go on to develop the disease. Women aged 65 and over who have never had a test are entitled to one.
