Please does anyone know if it is now illegal to give pets as prizes (ie goldfish at a fair) in England and Wales. I've tried looking it up myself and I can't work out which is the latest law, and not sure on the wording if it is actually illegal.

Thanks

I don't know if it is or not, but I really hope so. I always feel so sorry for those goldfish in little plastic bags hanging up in the baking hot sun. No wonder most of them die within such a short space of time. I'd be interested the hear the answer too.

seemingly it is still legal, although the first thread has something about not being able to display them in plastic bags and the second thread says that you have to be over 16 or accompanied by someone over 16 to win one. I agree with dmsjps and think that it is disgusting!

I think it's still legal to give them as prizes, but not legal to hang them up in bags. They have to be kept in an oxygenated tank or container to comply with the law.
