Green stripe on combat helmet.

I have recently seen a World War II Britisn infrantryman's steel helmet of the traditional design which has a green stripe approx. 1" wide running all the way from the front , over the top , to the back. Does anyone know what this designates?

i tried to ggole this for you without much luck.

I'd be surprised if it was any kind of regiment or ranking markings, as it would make them more easy to spot by snipers etc. Could it possibly have been added later ?

wonder if any old soldiers will know the answer to this

The definitive book on the topic is this one:
The History of the Steel Helmet in the First World War, Haselgrove & Radovic, Vol II. With acknowledgements to Marcus Cotton.

There is apparently a very similar sounding helmet in there but the authors haven't given a company for it, but it is possibly Black Watch.?
