Currently got Kaspersky
which came with the refurbished computer I bought last year, now says it runs out in 5 days. To get it again will cost £50 which I can't really afford, any suggestions? I think I had AVG before, although reading up there seem to be some problems with the 9 version. Any answers please in technophobe mode! Chris? You there mate?

I'd stick with karsparsky personally, but if not Microsoft security essentials and commodo are currently doing better than AVG in the free market.

Chuck - Not being a brown noser but you always seem to know your stuff so can I ask:
When you say "in the free market" do you mean its a better product or just that more people are using it?
I got a trojan horse called SECURITY TOOL over the weekend and it got through AVG.
reading about it it seems nothing can stop it and you have to get through the whole remove thing.

If you happen to be a Barclays bank customer and use online banking then Kaspersky is free http://www.bank.barcl...ftware/P1242557966961
Sorry dave, I didn't see your question before now.
When I say MSE is doing well in the free sector I mean it is scoring highly in all the recognised AV tests at the moment, it's in fact matching a lot of the paid for solutions (of which symantec is generally the top scorer at the moment)
As for the security tool, it's a bugger isn't it! but if you do get it then a scan in safe mode using malwarebytes will clear it.
