I thought this was a perfectly fine puzzle, not an earth-shattering PDM but solidly constructed nonetheless. And and am I wrong in seeing an extra letter in the wordplay of 42a, that does not in fact appear in the quote?

I somehow stumbled upon how to treat the 8 answers before having the quote, so I did not fully appreciate the nature of those 8 answers until that point.

Good Morning All and a warm welcome to all new chatterers. Just thought I would 'have a look' before shutting down for a week as off to the south where we might have some more clement weather. In between the showers we have managed to catch some 20 acres of haylage of good quality (so horse trainer/breeders will be breathing a sigh of relief) and in betyween all that I have managed a reasonable portion of the grid but have little idea of who the author is (so many people seemed to have entered or left this world on 25/07) and although I am blessed if I can work out why, 1a and a couple of others seem to be emitting a faint war-cry! I shall take it away with me, but as no BRB and no wish to access a computer I have no great hopes.....see you all about next Thursday.

The unched letter in 25a has two possible solutions both of which fit the definition - I am leaning towards the one which is later in the alphabet but can't quite get the wordplay - any thoughts?

I quite agree, the one that is further down the BRB is the correct one, the second 150 is also in the BRB. It also works better on the cryptic front. You confused me for a while with your use of boucherses, I'd have used "sabotsis", as I thought the English phrase referred to "shoes"is"" rather than plug. (I have used "" at the end of that to complete how I would have needed to put the finishing touches to certain equations, it's the Scientist emerging again!) Either way, as with EV we got there in the end.
You must have worried yourself for a while with 3 post of your own in sequence on one thread! I'd have been wondering if I was speaking to myself, even on the WWW as well as at home!!

as i get older i increasingly talk to myself so it was pretty much business as usual. sabotsisisis""" would have been better, my french is dreadful so i simply clogged a website and it came up with boucher

Are you sure you didn't "SABOT"age that website! My French is adequate, until they reply to my practiced question, at their normal speed, then I have to use "Lentement!" or "En Anglais?" always with "s'il vous plait!". Apologies for any typos and bad grammar.

Somewhat late saying ´hello´but still immersed in tearing out the bindweed, goose grass, horse tail and creeping buttercup. The garden is still enough of a novelty for me to be enjoying the challenge, but think the novelty may be wearing off. Also have a veritable cornucopia of blackcurrants to harvest. Consequently have been somewhat slow in finishing EV but did it without too much difficulty, other than lack of time. Too late for much in the way of French, nést pas, or long words or tarradiddles - it took me all my time to scan through this very long thread. Nice to see all the familiar names though, apart from Physics Girl, plus several new ones.
