Can a member of the public find out what sentence a person has been given after being found guilty of a crime ?

Criminal records are not in the public domain but court registers are. If you know which court the person was sentenced in you should be able to get the 'bare bones' of the case (i.e. charge, plea and sentence) by asking to consult the register.
