Yellow boxes

Anyone ever heard of anyone ever being prosecuted for violating yellow box rules? They're painted in lots of places round my way and are totally ignored. Suppose someone took a picture of a car violating the YB rule and sent it to the police would they do anything?

You can get done - a driver at the place I work at got fined �100 last week for being in a yellow box when his exit wasn't clear.  The letter they sent included a photograph of his vehicle (and about 10 others) in the box.  Seems like a good way to rake in even more money!

The Highway Code states that it is legal to remain stationary in a box junction when you are waiting for clearance to turn right. Otherwise it's an offence.

The static photograph would have been obtained from cctv footage...so they'd know if you'd been moving/waiting to turn right. At the end of the day, its only easy to make money out of this because its one of those rules that people think they can break with impunity.

It is indeed a brilliant way to rake in money - at the expense of idiot drivers.  If only it was enforced more widely, we'd have better traffic flow and pedestrians would actually be able to cross when the little green man is there!  Bus drivers, take note!

Normally the only evidence required is that someone saw the car stop in that area, and was not merely held up by oncoming traffic.  Many fleet vehicles have similar numbers for the same make/model and a picture will confirm that the number was correctly taken.  It will also deal with the "I was only a couple of inches into the box" kind of defence, and may illustrate the degree of obstruction caused.  It is unlikely that a prosecution would be undertaken on a picture alone.

Croydon, South London is a prime example. The cameras used are those that were originally installed for Bus Lane enforcement. These are real time zoom cameras with 360 degree ability. Not time lapse. They are backed up on to vhs tapes.

Camera operators have a bank of screens showing different locations and switch to a particular camera if the believe an offence is occuring, be it bus lane or otherwise.

If you come to a stop in the box and your not turning right then you are committing the offence as presumably your exit is not clear...if it is then why stop? They dont need to see obstruction on the entire road just the junction it self and the beginnings of the exits.
