A thing someone gave me in Thailand

I saw these things for sale, then someone gave me one, but I have no idea what it is or what it's for.
It consists of a long thin stick about 20" long with a droplet-shaped thing on the end. Or you might say it is shaped like a thistle. It has some decoration on it including gold paint and sequins.
Does anyone know what it is or what Thai peopl do with these sticks ?
