Hello, can anyone out there give me some advice. I would really like one of these (love to take books on hols, but get f ed up carting them everywhere), and OH has said I can get one for my birthday. Amazon sell them for £152 (3g version) and £111 (ordinary, I suppose). Not quite sure how they work though. HOw do I download books? You don't have to connect them to the internet or your computer do you?
Is it worth spending the extra for the 3G version?
Would be grateful for some help.advice. Chox.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I don't have one but have seen and played with a few, the 3G option is a no-brainer, for £40 odd quid over the price of the basic you get a Europe wide 3G contract, so as well as being able to download books anywhere in Europe (subject to coverage) you can also check your e-mail and do a little basic surfing as well. Books can be downloaded and transferred via your computer if you want but it's so simple to do direct from the Kindle itself that I don't see why you'd bother doing it any other way.
Thanks folks - I'm still a little unclear, and please forgive my thickness. What exactly do you mean by a "Europe wide 3G contract" What extra does that give the Kindle? Does it mean that I can use it as a sort of portable internet? If so, presumably that means I can go into Amazon via the Kindle's internet and download books, etc straight on to it. That right? Chox.
Spot on, from home, if you have WiFi it will use that, and as you say you go to Amazon and download books, out and about it would use 3G like a mobile phone, but unlike a mobile you won't get charged a fortune whilst abroad (in fact not at all). And you can use it to get email and surf (bit limited as no colour or flash but what do you want for £150 :-)) Although Amazon are obviously biased their webpage contains most of the answers http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002LVUWFE
