well it wasn't actually Colman but I believe it is part of the genre. Alan Minter: "Sure there have been deaths in boxing but none of them serious"
then there's the commentator talking about a Russsian lady weight lifter....

"ah there's............I saw her snatch last night, amazing!"
Bobby Robson

No we didnt underestimate them, they were just a lot better than we thought.
Again not Coleman but the inimitable Brian Johnston "The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey"
Brian Johnston again, after Botham knocke tha bails off after getting out of shap and losing balance. "well It's unlike Botham to fail to get his leg over"
Murray Walker is my favourite, the best being "The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical"

Very old and pre-dating Colemanballs:

Boxer Brian London, speaking about efforts to get him a title fight: "I'm just a prawn in this game..."
Juantareno? sprinter?
From David Coleman..
Dont tell those coming in the result of that fanatstic match but lets have another look at Italy's winning goal.
On this 101st FA Cup Final day there are just two teams left.
One of many observations from Brian Clough:
Football hooligans? well there are 92 club chairmen for a start!!

spot on ric the mans a prick
My favourite was by Alex Hay. Nick Faldo was on the practice putting green, with his then caddy Fanny Sunnesson squatting down behind him to check his putter was square to the target line. Hay said " Quite a few professional golfers get their caddy to check their alignment. With Nick it varies - sometimes he uses Fanny, sometimes he does it himself". You could clearly hear the guffaws from everyone in the commentators' cabin.
More golfing ones. At the World Matchplay at Wentworth, they showed the view from the hand held camera behind Bernhard Langer. Becuse of the low trajactory, it was difficult to make out the green in the distance. Peter Alliss offered these helpful words- "If you imagine the face of a dartboard, the pin's at two o'clock".
On another occasion, a golfer hit a good drive down the fairway. Peter Alliss said to Sam Torrance "That was a good one, Sam". Torrance replied "Yeh, it was a real Blondie". More guffawing.
