Sorry not sure which section to put this in. Please can someone give me a link to a free sniping site that I can use with e-bay. Many thanks for any answers.
Nox are we at cross purposes here? I'm talking about installing software that is designed to bid for you in the last second before bidding closes. That is sniping as I understand it.
No we're not at cross purposes at all, I just don't understand why you think it's 'unfair' etc, as anyone is free to use it, and no-one in their right mind would bid days in advance because it simply drives the price up and up.
OK everyone could install sniping software - that should be fun.
"no-one in their right mind would bid days in advance because it simply drives the price up and up" . Nox I agree, I never bid till the end and nowhere have I said anything about bidding early.
It was tongue in cheek when I said it was unfair. However you are at a disadvantage when you are bidding against people who are using sniping software and I do feel it is against the spirit of the site, that's one reason I don't use it.
Clearly peeps wouldn't be installing the software if they weren't gaining an advantage.
We're never going to see eye 2 eye on this so bye.
I do not see the point in it . Just bid your absolute maximum but make sure you put it as a max bid. Ebay will only use as much of your max as is needed to keep you in the lead. The highest bid will win regardless of how it is placed sniper or straight bid. You can place a max bid hours or days before the auction ends and just let it sit there.
Doing it this way means you are not tempted to keep upping your bid and end up regreting it as you got carried away and bid too much. One thing about ebay is there will always be another item along soon. Do you know you can have a 'wish list' on eBay and it will alert you when an item matching your wish list is put up?
I put in my maximum bid and then if it goes over that I know I can't afford it so I don't worry. Nice to win occasionally though. I put in a bid for something a couple of weeks ago, maximum £20 and it went to over £100 much to my surprise.
You have to put a maximum for a sniper bid just as for a Max bid so where is the diffrence?
By the way , 'free sniper' bids go in 5 to10 seconds before the end, if you do a paid for sniper bid you can set the time of the bid down to 1 second before end.
No idea why she thinks it's unfair Shakespearian, I have bid myself and maybe been beaten by sniper software and I've also probably beaten it when other people people are using it, it's all about maximum bid and not allowing the opposition time to up theirs- doesn't matter whether you've bid via software or with your own grubby little paws I don't think:)
Exactly NOX, if I want an item I put in a maxbid if I get beaten, fine, there will be another chance soon.
I just bid on a vintage camera, I put in a max of £12.50 , it went for £18.
However , a quick search found another one identical so i bid on that and got it for £4.99 , I was the only bidder.
I used the snipe site because in the past my computer was so slow that my bid would not register in the last few minutes, never mind the last few seconds. I don't see it as cheating as everyone can use a sniper if they want.
I do as the Shakesperian says - I decide how much I'm willing to pay for a thing, and even if the starting price is 99p, I'll bid £20 if that's what I'm prepared to pay. I see no point in sniping - I would still only be paying max £20.
