Empty fields

We drove to the coast and back this morning (about 10 miles away) and it was really noticeable that the fields were empty. Usually they are full of cattle, but not today, not a single animal to be seen.

Is it "that" time of year? Burger making time?

Round here the fields are empty most of the time, 25 years ago they were full of crops or cattle, but now they just seem to grow grass, I can't understand why we don't seem to grow anything anymore.

It must vary from region to region D97x7. Here in Norfolk agriculture is still the biggest industry, the fields are cropped twice a year and cattle kept on the marshland. (Well until they all vanished that is!)

We produce most of the country's sugar and along with surrounding counties, much of its supply of veg and salad. I'd be interested to know why your fields are all left to grassland too? Where are you?

Maidup, a friend of ours had a full heard of cattle until the Foot & Mouth, after that he said no more as it was not worth the aggro with the care / feed / of the animals, the return he had was not worth the effort & work

You're probably right, but I know in my village all dairy farming has ceased in recent years and all that is in the fields are a few horses.

Back to the OP, I think it's normal for cattle to be kept in at this time of year as the ground is still wet and the grass hasn't really started growing yet.
