Finding out that her husband had been killed must have been the most horrendous thing imaginable. I had wondered what had happened to her as there haven't been any news reports for ages. I guessed there had been negotiations behind the scenes. Some people may think that giving in to ransom demands is wrong, but at least she's alive.

Poor lady, she's going to need a lot of help to rebuild her life now. I'm glad she's free too.

With the coalition still concentrating on Afghanistan and until 2014 we have taken our eyes off the ball. Someone should tell Cameron Al Qaeda have most of their bases in Africa. It is now well known that sympathisers in the UK are travelling to training camps there. So how long before we decide we need to attack Somalia so they cannot plot the West's downfall. Like a revolving door there is no end to it!

rov, I kind of get what you're saying, but as I understand it, Somalia is effectively governed by warlords and pirates, so I'm not sure it's the hotbed of Al Qaeda you suggest. I'm not sure that Somalia would have what it takes to orchestrate the downfall of the West, but I well may be wrong.

I think the question that I totally failed to raise but wanted to ask (because quite frankly I was so stunned and delighted at Judith's release) was whether negotiating a ransom payment can ever be right. I don't know the answer to this one, but I'm interested in what other people think.
