Imported vehicle.....

my husbands van insurance is now due for renewal. he has had it for 4 years and always used the same broker. this time they are saying it is showing as being imported (this has never been mentioned before) and asking if it left hand drive and where was it imported from. This is alll news to us but my question is how do i know if it is an import? does it show on registration document? and why wouldnt i have been told this before?

If its taken his Insurance 4 years to come up with this, change them quick I'd hate to be with them in case of a claim, do your home work you should find out through DVLA.
