Estate car (need to have bicycle living in boot)
Automatic (back won't tolerate clutch in heavy traffic)
Run on petrol (modern turbo-diesels seem to break very expensively nowadays)
Change out of four grand, and must not be a Vectra

I have a Jaguar X-Type estate that I am very pleased with.....

Isn't that just a Mondeo with shiny bits glued onto it?
I thought that until I switched from a Mondeo to the X type, the Mondeo was good but the Jag is great.
I have a VW Touran 1.6 diesel, best vehicle I've ever owned.
A Skoda.............

The Jag really is that much better than the Ford? On paper it didn't seem to be the case.
I went from a 1.9 diesel turbo to a 2.0 diesel turbo and it really was like going from a carthorse to a racehorse, faster, better trimmed, more toys, sharper handling....
The only downside I have found is that the load area was slightly bigger on the Ford and access slightly better due to the Jag's streamlined shape.
I can't say how a 2.0 petrol might compare but given a choice I'd take the jag anyday.
