I'm not sure you can measure your success by your friends. True friends will be there whether you are successful or not. They are mates because they are mates, not because of the measure of your success. Indeed, if they are friends because of your success, I wonder if they are true friends.
As to the rest, I suppose the best measure is "are you happy with your lot and could I actually change it?".

Awlright, I'll bloody do it then (tchoh!)
"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life".
