I have 2 Say that I had the "S" as the first letter of the first name of the 9 letter word because the intersection was with 1 across with "S" being the first letter of a 13 letter word to the following clue which I thought I had correctly solved which went thus:-

One's a bit grey, but strangely stout and muscular (13)

I had assumed (wrongly it appears) that the answer was an anagram of stout/muscular with is STRATOCUMULUS.
