Make sure it is kept well watered when dry and given a liquid feed every week or slow release fertilizer once or twice a year.
Every 4 or 5 years, i'd take the tree out of the pot and remove 1/3 of the roots and old soil and replace with fresh new compost. Do this around march time.
It will probably get to around 6'-7' in a tub.
Logman will probably be along soon and totally disagree with every thing i say

Hi barber, your Japanese cherry is a good subject and should take well to a large container, although its evential height in open ground can be as much as 8m, a bit of careful prunning shoud keep it in your required bounds. As a last not remember to prune out any growth below the graft mark to prevent reversion. Good Luck..
