That Sir Ben did not get in the top three. A grave injustice. His achievement should have won hands down.

It got discussed on here quite a bit, when the nominations were announced, Jeza. There were a few names not even mentioned for the shortlist (Speedway World Champion Tai Woffinden and World Superbike Champion Tom Sykes - they have to perform all year round to win their titles. Tai Woffinden even broke his Collarbone twice and managed to lift the trophy).

I think that the top 3 of a lot of people would have been quite different.
looking at the three who actually were top, it's hard to believe there was any rival for Murray at all this year.
Here's the votes cast...

Andy Murray: 401,470 - 56%

Leigh Halfpenny: 65,913

AP McCoy: 57,854

Mo Farah: 51,945

Sir Ben Ainslie: 48,140

Chris Froome: 37,343

Hannah Cockroft: 26,151

Christine Ohuruogu: 13,179

Justin Rose: 9,833

Ian Bell: 5,626

Total: 717,454

I don't know how many votes Bradley Wiggins got, but Chris Froome did far more this year than win the Tour De France, and he only finished in sixth place overall.
looks like every Welshman in the country voted for Hapenny and every horse voted for McCoy
i love Sir Ben Ainslie, but i wonder that many really know of him, i know he is one of our favourite Olympic yachtsman, but in many ways that is not something that many know of, football, tennis, rugby yes, but yachting, sailing, its still something of an elitist sport.

Isn't that the population of Scotland ?
