can i grow a dogwood in a pot?

~Yes, as long as the pot is large enough, and you use a suitable compost. Make sure you feed the plant regularly, and make sure that it does not dry out too much, just as you would with any container grown plant.

I dont see why not some of the smaller varieties would be most suitable and they are not too fussy of soil types either. some of the coloured stemed ones will look good against the right back ground ie cornus alba, has bright red stems and would look great with a white or cream wall behind it. Cornus alba sibirica vaiegata is nice, with the added bonus of variegated leaves. Cornus stolonifera flavirama has bright yellow stems and has a bushy habit. You need to (coppice) cut the stems hard back every autumn or every other year to get the bright stems.

in my experience they have two types of roots, one which is fiberous and another which is more like a under-ground creaping stem, which can be pruned off from the parent to get you extra free plants, look for these when you rep-pot!..
